Who is Your God?

We have long known that mankind has a habit of choosing to replace God with other things in an attempt to get ‘something better’. Paul warns about it in Romans 1:23-25 when he says  men “exchange the truth about God for a lie, and worship and serve the creature rather than the Creator.”

Never have I seen this so plainly demonstrated than man’s latest religion: googlism. I’m not kidding– there is a website claiming that google is the closest thing to a god that mankind has ever experienced.

Part of their website is dedicated to giving “proof” as to why they espouse this new belief system in google over other religions.  Some include their claim that google can answer prayers, by giving you information after you enter a search into the internet; or that google is omnipresent because “she is virtually everywhere on earth at one time.”

There is even a page dedicated to prayers to and for google, such as a version of Proverbs 3:5-6 which states, “Trust in the GOOGLE with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge her, and she will direct your paths.”

Unfortunately, there will always be people willing to dedicate their energy to something they have created and can control rather than giving themselves to the One who created them and knows their needs best. We shouldn’t be surprised if it fails when people create their own problems, then try to solve those problems by creating their own god!
