Devotional Thought: We Are the Prey

Looking at the Christian life one thing is for certain--christians are the prey. We are not the predator; we are not neutral; we are the prey. In I Peter 5:8, Peter writes “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” The devil is a predator of all men. Peter warns his readers to watch out because Satan is waiting for an opportunity to catch you in a moment of weakness.

So what can we do? The devil is the master of deception. He uses our friends, family, and the world to his advantage at times. But how can we be successful in withstanding his attacks? James 4:7 says, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” We need to submit our whole self to God. In doing so we will naturally resist the devil. If we focus on God and on “whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things” we will succeed.
