Have you been feeling sad lately? Have you been feeling alone? Tired? Stressed? Guilty?
If you have been feeling any one of the above (or have felt that way before) this article is for you! God cares for you! He loves you. We all know John 3:16, but do we believe it? What about Romans 5:8?
Sometimes due to certain situations or circumstances people feel sad, depressed, tired, stressed, lonely, you name it. They look around and ask, "Where is God in all of this?" The feeling of loneliness is not a great feeling. However, many great men of faith felt this way too. David is one of the primary examples we are given. By reading the psalms--written mostly by David--we can lift up our spirits.
David Went to God During Times of Difficulty.
Psalm 25:17 reads, "The troubles of my heart have enlarged; bring me out of my distress!"
Psalm 31:2 reads, "Bow down Your ear to me, deliver me speedily; be my rock of refuge, a fortress of defense to save me."
These passages make me realize that David felt alone many times; however, he responded correctly by going to God to find comfort. Sometimes, David felt so alone he asked God, "How long, O LORD will you forget me forever" (Psalm 13:1). However, after expressing his feelings, he reminded himself and expressed to God his appreciation for God's steadfast love (Psalm 13:5-6). God has never abandoned us; he won't start now!
David Found Comfort in God.
Psalm 71:3 reads, "Be my strong refuge, to which I resort continually; You have given the commandment to save me, for You are my rock and my fortress."
Psalm 28:7 reads, The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; therefore, my heart greatly rejoices, and my song I will praise Him."
David found true peace in God. He found true comfort in God. When we turn to worldly things (friends, drugs, sex, alcohol, anything other than God) in times of weakness, true comfort is impossible to obtain. David knew that God is the answer. God is the ultimate provider. He is the Almighty.
These are just a few verses from Psalms. There are many more that are very encouraging. I encourage you, if you are feeling sad, depressed, stressed, anxious, lonely, or anything of the sort to pray, go to God, and read the Psalms. Reading Psalms will bring you peace, will bring you comfort, and will bring you closer to God.
Remember "For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you might follow in his steps" (1 Peter 2:21).
