Living In The World Today

It is becoming more evident that we live in a world that places God on the back burner until some tragedy happens. We live in a world that excludes God from everything and then asks, "Where is God" or "Where was God when..." We live in a world that rejoices in wrongdoing, instead of demonstrating righteousness. Don't you think it's about time we act? Don't you think it's about time we take a stand?

Before we quickly say that we do not contribute to this world mindset, examine with me, a few questions:

Are We Openly Talking To Others About God?

This is a hard one. Many of us find it hard to bring up religion due to fear of (fill in the blank). However, in Matthew 28, Jesus commanded the disciples to teach the whole world. We too are disciples. We have a responsibility to tell the good news to those around us. A well known atheist once said "How much do you have to hate somebody to believe that everlasting life is possible and not tell them that".

Are We Letting The Teachings Of The World Make A Home In Our Hearts?

Paul writes in 2 Timothy 4:3 "or the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but have itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions". The world has accepted aboriton, homosexuality, drunkenness, sexual immorality, unwholesome speech, and the list continues. We are so scared of hurting feelings we compromise the truth. While we do need to speak the truth in love and seasoned with grace, we cannot compromise the truth in order to please itching ears.

Are We Living And Teaching A Godly Life In The Home?

Deuteronomy 6:7 says, "You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down and when you rise up". Parents have the biggest influence on their children. Did you know that a recent study shows that teens only spend 7% of their time around adults? Another recent survey asked high school seniors where their sources of support came from revealed that parents are the primary support, not ministers. Parents, are you doing your job to spiritually train your children? Are you living out your faith daily setting an example for family?

What are you doing to be a light in your community? What are you doing to positively affect the population of heaven?
