Every year for the past 16-17 years youth groups and adults have converged at a particular location for Exposure Youth Camp. For as long as I can remember, it has been at the Embassy Suites and Von Braun Center in Huntsville, AL. EYC spent a brief stint in Atlanta, GA before moving back to Huntsville, AL in 2015. This year over 1,800 people gathered to sing praises to God, grow spiritually, make new relationships, and rekindle old friendships.
I have attended Exposure Youth Camp as a camper and as an adult, while, also, serving as a team leader the past few years. To me, EYC is one of the most premiere youth camps/conferences in the Southeast and this year was no exception! Here are a few reasons why I love EYC and why you should think about going, if you aren't going already.
1. PRICE and REGISTRATION. The cost of EYC is $150 which includes a t-shirt, all your meals but one during the conference, lodging, and the conference. You can't beat this inclusive price! It takes a burden off of Youth Ministers having to reserve hotel rooms, as well. EYC takes care of everything - all you have to do is register your group! There's nothing more stressful, at times, than dealing with hotels along with everything else involved with planning a trip. Let EYC take care of it for you!
2. TEAM TIME. There is no other camp/conference, in the country (that I know of), that offers this unique concept in their schedule. Each student is put on a team that is comprised of other campers and a few members of their youth group (we don't want anyone being alone!). Each day they meet with their team for a time of mixer games and devotionals. Each devotional dives in to a deeper study of the overall theme for that year. This year's theme was "Three" in which the topics covered understanding the Trinity better. It's also a great way to meet new people and build new relationships that will last until EYC the next year. There's nothing quite like the team concept that is built in and the team leaders are always fantastic in their roles!
3. SPIRITUAL CHALLENGE SESSIONS. Most youth conferences/camps have grown so large that there is no flexibility in schedule and choice. You can choose to sit in a large room and listen to a speaker talk about a topic that you may interest you. However, at Exposure Youth Camp, each day you get to choose the session you want to attend. I have found that most kids (and adults) are more likely to actively engage in learning if they are able to select a class topic that is interesting to them. It is always great to hear each evening what was learned during the day. There is excitement in what the kids learned and there is no hesitation in sharing the information. This shows me that they listened, engaged, and retained the information. It, also, shows me that our students are learning and that is something that you want out of a youth camp/conference.
4. ATRIUM SINGING. What conference can you go to where each participant stands on each floor of a hotel and sings praises to God? I would dare say there's not many places. This is the highlight of my time at EYC each year! This year seemed to be the best atrium singing I have ever been a part of, it will give you goosebumps. In fact, anytime I mention Exposure Youth Camp, I am always asked, "Is that the camp with the hotel singing?" My response, "Yes it is. There is nothing that I have ever been a part of that gets this close to Heaven. The atrium singing is something you have to experience at least once in your lifetime." In fact, videos that have been shared on social media have easily been viewed over 250,000 times! Check out this video from this year's atrium singing: CLICK HERE.
It is a very spiritually uplifting and challenging couple of days. I watch our youth group go every year, grow spiritually, and come back on fire for God as they start the new year! You can't ask for a better camp for your kids to be a part of throughout the year.
There is no better way to end your year than at Exposure Youth Camp. It is December 27-30 every year, so go ahead and mark off those dates and plan to be a part of EYC in 2016!
Why do you love Exposure Youth Camp? I would love to hear your feedback!
