How many miracles happen each year?

Question: How many miracles happen per year?

Answer: To answer this question we must first have a better understanding of miracles. First, take an overall look at the miracles which happened in the New Testament. Are those those type of miracles happening today? Miracles were used for 4 purposes:

1. The first purpose of the miracles was to prove that Jesus is Deity/God. (John 1:1-3; 20:30; Acts 2:22). Why would John have made a record of these miracles, if Jesus were still performing miracles today?

2. The second purpose of the miracles was to confirm God's word to those who heard (Mark 16:20; Hebrews 2:1-4).

Is it Okay For Christians to Have Tattoos?

Is it Okay For Christians to Have Tattoos?
"Do not eat meat that has not been drained of its blood. Do not practice fortune-telling or witchcraft. “Do not trim off the hair on your temples or trim your beards. Do not cut your bodies for the dead, and do not mark your skin with tattoos. I am the Lord. Do not defile your daughter by making her a prostitute, or the land will be filled with prostitution and wickedness. Keep my Sabbath days of rest, and show reverence toward my sanctuary. I am the Lord. Do not defile yourselves by turning to mediums or to those who consult the spirits of the dead. I am the Lord your God."  Leviticus. 19:26 - 31

This passage from Leviticus is the primary addressing of tattoos in the Scriptures, which first tells us that the Bible is almost completely silent on the issue. Examining this passage in its context as a message to Israel reveals 8 COMMANDMENTS within the 6 verses that share a common theme  SANCTIFICATION (DON'T BE LIKE THE IDOLATROUS PAGAN CULTURE AROUND YOU).

The statement I am Yahweh your God bookends this section (at the end of 19:25 and the end of 19:31). The statement emphasizes God s uniqueness and holiness as opposed to Egyptian, Canaanite, or other pagan gods. The 8 COMMANDMENTS (mostly prohibitions) are as follows:

Was Slavery Allowed in the Old Testament?

Was Slavery Allowed in the Old Testament?

Slavery in the Bible is a difficult topic to broach because our model is both horrific and largely unrelated to slavery in the Bible. Slaves in our time and in recent centuries are "chattel" slaves meaning they were treated as personal property of the owner. They were tricked into or forced to work. They received no pay and had no right to refuse to work. Their humanity was owned by another person.

Slavery in the Old Testament was very different and involved a variety of methods, situations, and restrictions. But the Old Testament is clear about capturing people and selling them as chattel: kidnapping was a crime punishable by death (Exodus 21:16).

The Purpose of Slavery
In an ideal world, slavery would neither be an option nor a necessity. Because of the socioeconomic situation of Old Testament Israel...

Why Does God Allow Pain and Suffering?

Why Does God Allow Pain and Suffering?

When we look around the world today, our vision seems to be clouded by negativity and just plain bad stuff. It seems that cancer is getting stronger and taking more of our loved ones, people are attacking one another, and violence is prevailing.  The world seems to be falling apart right beneath our feet. When all this is taking place we hear a few different things such as: 1.”pray for us” 2. “We’re praying for you” 3. “We need God” 4. “Where is God?” to name a few. I see so many hurting every day, and I have heard the statement, “If God is a loving and powerful God why is He allowing these things to happen?” John tells us in 1 John 4 that God is Love. John tells us that God is the definition of Love. If this is the case, the media sure does not make it seem that way.

I believe we use God as a scapegoat to cast all the blame on. Over the past few years I have looked in on the subject and have received serval bits of advice. In the next few paragraphs I’m going to give you some reasons that bad things happen. Although this list is not complete by any means, it may help you out!

“Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you” – 1 Peter 4.12

If God is loving and powerful why do these things happen? Notice I did not say why does GOD make these things happen.

Speaking in Tongues: Does it happen today?

Speaking in Tongues: Does it happen today?

This past weekend I was asked to speak at SOAR Youth Rally in Augusta, GA. The whole weekend was centered around finding answers to questions that we might have when it comes to our personal faith or doctrinal questions to receive clearer answers. I was asked to teach on "Speaking in Tongues: What does the bible say and does it happen today?" I had a great response to the class and wanted to share my notes with the Walking in His Footsteps audience.

By the end of this article, I want us to understand the biblical purpose for speaking in tongues vs. speaking in tongues today and compare the two to see if they are the same. From that we can decide if people speak in tongues today. However, In order to talk about speaking in tongues, we must first understand the concept.

What is a “tongue”? (not the organ in your mouth) When you see the word tongue, it simply means – a language, a human spoken language. Like English, Spanish, French – those could all be considered tongues.
