Reconciliation is at the core of the story of scripture. From the beginning, reconciliation is what God has been in pursuit of and what every human alive has been lacking. To be reconciled to God, we must first learn to be reconciled to one another. We are tempted to allow our emotions and our natural instinct of preservation to affect how we view the people around us – even people in the church. It is not enough to simply act according to the law be avoiding murder. Jesus goes a step further by looking into the heart of the disciple. Don’t even hold anger in your heart, and let nothing stand between you and your brother.
So if you are offering your gift on the altar, and there you remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled with your brother, and then come and offer your gift.
Grace to you and peace from God, our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ,
