A Blessing for the Nations

"God be gracious to us and bless us,
And cause His face to shine upon us..." (Psalm 67:1)

Psalm 67 begins with an echo of the Aaronic Blessing of Numbers 6:22-27. But instead of its focus being just on the current people of God or just the nation of Israel, it is a missional psalm - focused on "all nations" and "all the peoples."

"That Your way may be known on the earth,
Your salvation among all nations.
Let the peoples praise You, O God;
Let all the peoples praise you.
Let the nations be glad and sing for joy;
For You will judge the peoples with uprightness
And guide the nations on the earth.
Let the peoples praise You, O God;
Let all the peoples praise You.
The earth has yielded its produce; God, our God, blesses us.
God blesses us,
That all the ends of the earth may fear Him."

- Psalm 67:2-7

What does this passage teach me? It teaches me that I can pray for God’s blessing - the shining of His face upon us. But even more so it teaches me the purpose of blessing. I am not only a recipient of blessing. I am a conduit of blessing. I am meant to pass the blessing through me and into the lives of others. God blesses us so that all peoples may know who He is and come to worship Him.

So may God's face shine upon you this week in such a way that others may see His glory through you.

To His Glory,
Caleb
